The first groom decides all the others
Puppies from 8 to 16 weeks get a short, gentle appointment built around one goal: leaving happy. We introduce the table, the water and the dryer at the puppy's pace, and we stop before it stops being fun.
What happens at a puppy visit
- A warm bath with the sensitive-skin shampoo, the mildest formula in the line
- A gentle blow-dry, introduced slowly, with breaks
- Nails, ears and a face and paw tidy if the puppy is comfortable
- Lots of handling, treats and quitting while we're ahead
Why 8 to 16 weeks
That's the socialization window. A puppy who learns the salon is a safe place in these weeks is an easy dog to groom for the rest of its life. A puppy whose first experience is a full groom at six months, matted and scared, often isn't.
What to bring
The rabies record, and a note of anything the breeder or vet told you about the coat. Doodles, Poodles and Bichons especially benefit from starting early, because their coats will need regular grooming for life.
After the first one
We'll suggest a rhythm, usually every four to six weeks, and a product for home. Your first full groom is where the real haircut starts.
